Covid-19: New CT County Added To CDC's 'High Transmission' Category

Fairfield County has been added to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's list of counties that recorded a high level of community transmission of COVID-19.

In the week from Tuesday, Aug. 10 through Monday, Aug. 16, Fairfield County had a high level of community transmission, according to the CDC. This means at least 100 COVID-19 cases were reported per 100,000 people during that time period.

The CDC recommends that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in indoor public spaces in counties with substantial or high community transmission.

New London, Middlesex, Hartford and New Haven counties also had high community transmission during that week, the CDC said. The remaining three Connecticut counties are in the "substantial" community spread category.

The CDC said 2,720 US counties, which is about 84.4 percent, had a high level of COVID-19 community transmission during that week.
